Changing the Unit of the Data Axis of Time Series

The Convert/Overwrite Unit . . . method changes the unit of the data axis of time series in ETA.

To change the unit of a time series in the ETA, select Methods → Change time series properties → Convert/Overwrite Unit . . . in the menu bar (see the following figure).
Alternatively, you can use the key combination <Alt>+<Shift>+<U> or the symbol in the lower toolbar.
Method Changing Unit

The Unit Conversion dialog box appears.

Mode Convert Unit

To convert a unit, use the Convert unit Mode. In this mode, the values of the data points are converted. The selected unit and the original unit must be convertible into each other.

Alternatively, any unit can be specified in the Overwrite unit Mode. The values of the data points remain unchanged, only the unit is overwritten.

The following figure illustrates schematically the changing of the unit.

Parameter description: Convert/Overwrite unit

  • Mode: Defines the operation of the procedure.
    • Convert unit: The original unit of the time series is converted into the new unit. The numerical values of the data axis are converted. The prerequisite for this is that the original unit of the time series can be converted into the new unit according to the physical rules (e.g., from kWh to J).
    • Overwrite unit: The unit of the time series is replaced by the new unit, whereby the numerical values of the data axis remain unchanged. Any valid physical unit can be assigned to the time series.
  • Unit: Enter the new unit for the selected time series.

It’s possible to convert the unit of any number of time series simultaneously. Click on the Select time series button to open a dialog with the current project tree. By checking or unchecking the boxes next to the time series, you select which time series are used by the procedure. Close the selection dialog box with OK to accept the selection.

You can also select a previously selected time series directly from the list of time series in the procedure and delete it with <Del>.

Further options

  • Create new time series: Select this option to create a copy of the selected time series with the changed unit. Deactivate this option to directly change the unit in the time series.
  • Suffix: Enter an extension for the newly created time series. It is appended to the original name of the time series. This option is only available if the Create new time series option is selected.
When converting units of time series from TOP-Energy projects, please note that the Overwrite unit Mode is only permitted if Create new time series have been selected with a check mark.
