The Self_Consumption_Rate.e-ctpl component template is located in the Component template library folder Key Figures.

 

How the Component Works

The key figure self consumption rate indicates what proportion of the self-generated electrical power is used for own consumption.

The self consumption rate key figure is to be used only in relation to the electricity supply.

Surplus electricity can be fed into the grid, whereas unused heat is not fed into the grid because of the high exergy losses during transport and storage; here, if the feed-in is 0, the self consumption rate would be equal to 1.

The key figure self consumption rate can be used, for example, to evaluate the economic efficiency of a photovoltaic system. It makes sense to cover one’s own needs with the electricity from the PV system. Surplus electricity, which is mainly generated during the midday hours, can be fed into the grid against payment.

The self consumption rate is calculated by default according to the following formula, in which \( i \) is the running index.

\( K_{self\ consumption\ rate} = \frac {\sum {P_{electricity\ demand,i}}\ -\ \sum {P_{purchase\ power\ grid,i}}}{\sum {P_{power\ generation,i}}} \)

 

\( K_{self\ consumption\ rate} = 1\ – \frac {\sum {P_{feed-in}}} {\sum {P_{generation}}} \)

 

The self consumption rate can take values between 0 and 1 and is usually given as a percentage (0 % – 100 %).

If the entire generated power is used for own consumption, the key figure assumes a value of 1. Whether and to what extent additional power is drawn from the grid is not evident from the key figure. If the self consumption rate is 1, the feed-in is 0:

\( K_{self\ consumption\ rate} = 1 , P_{feed-in} = 0 \)

 

If the ratio is greater than 0 and less than 1, the generated power is not fully used for own consumption:

\( 0 < K_{self\ consumption\ rate} < 1 , P_{feed-in} > 0 \)

 

The self consumption rate takes the value 0 if the entire demand is covered by the energy supplier and the entire electrical power generated is fed into the grid:

\( K_{self\ consumption\ rate} = 0 , P_{feed-in} = P_{generation} \)
