Units in TOP-Energy
TOP-Energy works generally with units: all inputs and outputs, numerical values and time series are provided with units. You will find the Basic Units, Derived Units, Constants, and possible Prefixes available in TOP-Energy under the respective links.
Use
The available units can be combined (multiplied and divided) or have a prefix as desired.
Thus, one megawatt can be written as MW, mwatt, or megawatt. This can even be expressed in SI units as:
mega kg m^2 / s^3
If the compatible unit you want is not yet in the drop-down list, you can simply write it directly in the unit field, e.g., MWh/a. If the unit is incompatible or not known in this notation in TOP-Energy, a warning will appear.
Special Features
Absolute und Relative Units
Temperatures must be differentiated between absolute and relative units.
Absolute units have a fixed reference point, e.g., the absolute zero point at Kelvin. They may not be added, multiplied or divided.
The difference of absolute units is a relative unit. Relative units are without a fixed reference point, all arithmetic operations are allowed here.
Monetary Units
Euro and Cent are available as Monetary Units for a large and a small unit of money, which are converted in a ratio of 1:100. If another Currency is activated in the Localization settings, all monetary units in the control elements are replaced with it without conversion.
