Setting Currency, Language, and Number Format

Currency Setting

You can select the currency for the prices in the project from the drop-down menu in the Extras ribbon (see the following figure).

You find all currencies available in the article Derived Units.

All monetary units in the forms are replaced without conversion. The large monetary units to be selected from the list are each combined with a small monetary unit in a ratio of 1:100. The monetary unit abbreviations indicated in square brackets above are used in the forms.

No restart is required after changing the currency. The selected currency is displayed immediately. The remaining data do not change.

The correct currency should be chosen at the start of the project because TOP-Energy does not provide for automatic currency translation.

Language Settings

Select the user interface display language (GUI language) in the Extras ribbon in the Settings group in the drop-down menu (see the following figure):

  • de_DE for German/Germany or
  • en_US for English/USA.

The GUI language can be changed at any time and independently of the project. This translates the user interface including forms, menu bars, and toolbars. The node names in the project explorer, the component names in the project exlorer and on the scheme as well as notes, comments, and annotations written by the editor in an expression field are not translated. For this reason, it is advisable to create the project in the language in which it is to be completed from the beginning.

After changing the display language the following prompt to restart the program appears.

To ensure that all changes take effect restart the system immediately.

If necessary, save the opened project and then reopen it.

Number Format: Country Format

According to the selected GUI language, the Country format for the decimal and thousands separators in numerical data is automatically changed. A comma is used as decimal separator in Germany and a period in the USA. In the case of thousands separators, the opposite is true.

The Country format for the decimal and thousands separators can also be set separately in the options menu (to be opened via the button Advanced settings in the Settings group of the Extras ribbon) under General → Localization (see the following two figures).

There, use the checkboxes to select whether a thousands separator is to be displayed and whether to Round to significant figures. The number of significant figures is specified in the Number of digits to round (number of rounding places) field.

If no check mark is set to Rounding to significant figures, the Number of digits to round (number of rounding places) is interpreted as the number of Decimal places to which the rounding takes place.

The Threshold of scientific notation can be determined by the user.

For example, if the threshold for 10,000,000 is set to the default value of 9, the number is displayed as shown in the following figure. If the threshold is reduced to 3, the display shows 1.0000e+07 for the number of digits to be rounded of 5 (see the figure after next).

When all settings are selected click Apply at the bottom of the window and confirm with OK. A change in the number format will take effect immediately even without restarting the application.
