Synthesize Time Series by Typical Days
The method generates time series from typical days for summer, winter, and the transition periods autumn and spring.
The method works for all forms of energy when typical days are available or can be made. It is possible to use your own typical days or the Default load profiles for electrical power stored in the ETA.
The method is called via the entries in the project ribbon New time series → Create from typical days (see following figure).
The following dialog window opens.
First, the year and the region which the resulting time series is to represent must be defined. The region is relevant to take into account the regional holidays and particularities of the time change.
Monthly Integrals
The monthly integrals tab shows the integrals of the real demands for each individual month (see following figure).
Ideally, these integrals are determined on the basis of historical settlements. If this is not possible, they are to be estimated. The unit in which the monthly integrals are available shall be indicated. The default load profiles are then adapted to the monthly integrals.
If only a yearly and no monthly statement is available, the Year integral value and the estimated ratio of the monthly integrals can be entered as alternatives to the monthly integrals. To do this, place a check mark in front of scale months to year integral. Enter a ratio for each month, e.g., 2 for January to April, 1 for May to August, and so on. The curves from the default load profiles are taken into account according to these conditions in order to form the monthly integrals. You can specify percentages without using the percentage sign, for example, for January 35 when 35 % of the demand is for the month of January.
If you do not want to weight the months differently, e.g., because of weather-independent electricity consumption, write the number of days in a month in the table (see following figure).
The Default load profiles for electrical power were created in this way.
Seasons
Under the seasons tab, you can specify the number of seasons and the Start and End dates of each season. The default settings are four annual periods (seasons), which are based on typical energy consumption in Germany in the summer and winter seasons and in the transition periods spring and autumn (see figure below).
Typical Days of Seasons 1–4
The default load profiles for the corresponding season and the weekday, Saturday, and Sunday/holiday (time series of typical days) are selected under the tabs typical days of season 1-4 under simple input from drop-down lists, in which all time series opened in ETA are available (see following figure).
The typical days of the standard load profiles for electricity can usually be found under C:\Program Files\TOP-Energy $version$\Time-Series-Projects\Load_Profile-Electricity\Typical days. Open the time series in ETA before starting the method to be able to select them for synthesis.
Simple input is recommended if the default load profiles are divided according to weekday, Saturday, and Sunday/holiday. If the load profiles reflect every single day of the week, you should use the Advanced input.
Apply
To execute the dialog, click the Apply button at the bottom right of the dialog window.
During execution, the specified typical days are morphed according to their season and weekday to the previously calculated daily integral value. Morphing also interpolates the typical days of neighboring seasons, e.g., in late summer it interpolates between the typical days for summer and autumn. To make this possible, all typical days stored by the user must have the same time grid.
With small monthly integrals it can occur that the harmonic components overshoot and thereby negative daily integral values develop. If this is undesirable, the user can answer the query as to whether the result time series may contain negative values with No after the method has been executed. Then negative values are replaced by 0. The year integral can therefore be shifted under certain circumstances.
Result Time Series
The result time series is automatically given the name Synthetized Time Series by Typical Days, possibly with the addition of a number, and can now be used for simulations (see following figure).
The temporal resolution corresponds to the resolution of the default load profiles. If, for example, these are available in 15-minute steps, the result time series will also have a step width of 15 minutes.
