Transferring Time Series to Another Year
The Transfer to another year method moves a time series to another year, taking into account the regional holidays, so that the typical weekly and holiday structure of the data is retained. Public holiday calendars are stored in the ETA for Germany, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
The generated time series can either replace the original time series or be created as a new time series.
It is also possible to transfer several time series at once to another year.
How the Method Works
This method first transfers the start date and time to the newly selected year. Then data is moved from a Sunday to a Sunday, from a Monday to a Monday, and so on. The public holidays of the original time series are transferred to the public holiday dates of the newly selected year.
The following figure schematically illustrates the process of transfer to another year.
If there are gaps in the time series when the public holidays are shifted, these are replaced by values of a suitable day from the original time series that is as close as possible to the missing day and has the same weekday. Only if the original time series refers to a leap year and the target time series does not, will the resulting time series have more data points than the original time series.
Typically, this applies to load profiles of companies.
For shifting time series that are independent of public holidays, e.g., time series of temperatures, the Move time points method is better suited.
Application
To transfer a time series to another year, select Methods → Move → Transfer to another year in the ribbon (see following figure).
The dialog box for the method opens (see the following figure).
Click Select time series and select the time series to be moved to another year from the open time series. Multiple selection is possible.
Select the Country, Region, and City (for example, Augsburg) whose regional holidays appear in the original time series and are to be included in the new time series. Germany, the United Kingdom, and Australia, for which public holiday calendars are stored in the ETA, are available for selection. Select Other for the remaining countries to ignore the holidays.
The next step is to select the Year to which the time series is to be shifted.
Finally, it can be specified that the existing time series are not overwritten with the year of the newly created time series, but that new time series are created additionally. A Suffix can be defined for the names of the new time series to be created (see the figure below).
