The Gas_Compressor Component

The component Gas_Compressor represents a model of a compressor that compresses hydrogen, methane, or a mixture of both. The component is used in combination with the power-to-gas component.

Component Template

The component template Gas_Compressor.e-ctpl is located in the subfolder _Distribution Network in the Component template library folder Fuel Supply.

How the Component Works

The use of the component is demonstrated in tutorial 26 in variants 1 and 2.

In the Technical input data select the die Type of input from the drop down list:

  • Estimation of adiabatic compression power,
  • Volume flow dependent compression power, or
  • Energy flow dependent compression power.

When estimating the adiabatic compression power, the nominal capacity is specified in the form of the maximum power consumption or maximum volume flow.

If the material model Fuel, Energy, is activated, select the fuel under the heading State of the fuel flow. For the selected fuel Hydrogen or Methane then enter the Inlet and Outlet pressure as well as the Inlet and Outlet temperature. The electrical compression power is calculated according to the equations of isentropic compression. For hydrogen, the compression factor at 350 K is used. For methane, a constant compression factor of 0.97 is used. For the Fuel Energy material model, only the compression power for hydrogen or methane is estimated. For mixtures of hydrogen and methane, the compression power is estimated when the material model Fuel, Considering composition, is activated. Then the composition of the gas is taken from the connected preceding component (e.g., Power-to-Gas) and does not have to be specified separately in the form of the compressor. If a mixture is present, the individual estimated outputs for hydrogen and methane are interpolated.
