Merging Time Series
The method merges two or more time series into a new time series by arranging the time points of all time series on a time bar. If the time series to be merged overlap and have the same points in time, either the average of the values of all time series containing this point in time is formed for these points in time, or it is decided for these points in time according to a priority list which time series transfers its values to the result time series in each case (see following schematic illustration).
Applying the Method
To start the method, select Methods → Cut/Extend → Merge from the ribbon (see figure below) or use the key combination <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<M>.
Or select Methods → Combine time series → Merge from the context menu of the time series in the Project Explorer (see figure below).
The dialog box of the method opens (see following figure).
Click Select time series and select the time series to be merged from the open ones. A multiple selection is possible.
Select the procedure for Handling of time duplicates resolving data conflicts: Order of the time series list or Average. Data conflicts occur when the time series to be merged have the same points in time. For these points in time, the mean value (Average) can be calculated from the values of this data point and transferred to the result time series. Time series that do not contain this data point are ignored when averaging.
If the Order of list is decisive, the time series above have priority over those below. The value of the time series that is highest in the list is accepted, the values of the other time series for this point in time are discarded.
You can change the order of the time series in this ranking list by selecting the time series and moving it up or down using the Up or Down buttons. Use the Delete button to remove the time series from the list of time series to be merged.
Specify a Suffix for the name of the new time series. The front part of the name is taken from the time series that is at the top of the ranking of the time series to be merged.
Examples
The following value table illustrates the data conflict resolution options for the overlapping times of demands 1 to 3. The suffixes of the time series names reflect the order of the demand time series or the average method when merging them.
