Result Data of the Economic Evaluation

The result data of the comparative economic evaluation of several variants can be found in the form of the Variant comparison, that of an individual variant also in the form of the Variant analysis. The detailed data of the economic efficiency calculation including formulas and broken down into the individual years of the period under consideration can be viewed in the Excel-Export. To get a quick overview on selected data, use the Watchlist.

Results of One Variant

The forms of the Variant analysis and the Variant comparison show the results of a variant.

Variant Analysis Node

The results of the economic evaluation of a variant, the costs and revenues, are displayed as Default view without actors or for a selected Stakeholder in the Variante Variant analysis in separated forms for the Start year and the Support years, if applicable, under the tab Economy (see following figure).

Below the bar chart and the summary list of costs and revenues, the Electricity, Fuel, Water, Steam, Heating, Cooling, Compressed Air, Operation costs and revenues, and Investment costs contained in the project are listed. A click on the sign at the beginning of the line opens the area of the form (caption) to view detailed information on the composition of costs and revenues (see following figure).

The cost-relevant information on the individual parts of the Components, e.g., Average price, Energy flow (quantity), Rate of price increases, Costs, and, if applicable, the Running time, is listed in a table. The parts are sorted according to their share of the costs in descending order. Next to the table, a pie chart provides an overview of the proportionate composition of costs and revenues.

The Resource costs (Water costs, Sewage costs) and the Resource revenues (e.g., for Oxygen and EUA) are displayed as Operating costs and Operating revenues (see following figure).

Variant Comparison Node

The economic results of a variant are transferred to the Variant comparison. The Variant comparison form of a Variant also shows the economic results of a variant for the Display year selected in the Economy ribbon as Default view without actors or for a selected Stakeholder under Evaluation of economical efficiency and Costs and revenues. The sums of all Operating costs, Operating revenues, and Costs and Revenues for the respective energy sources (e.g., Electricity, Fuel, Water, Other, Heat, Cooling, Steam) are listed and displayed in diagrams (see examples in the following slider).

Overview of the Variant Comparison

Under the Overview tab, diagrams are available as a Default view without actors or for a selected Stakeholder allowing you to compare the variants at a glance.

Subtab Comparison of Variants

The economic results of several variants (the Reference case and three other variants) are clearly shown in four bar charts in the Variant comparison under the tabs Overview → Comparison of variants (see following figure).

For each diagram, you can select from the drop-down list which results of the comparative economy evaluation are to be displayed. The following represent the entire Period under consideration:

  • Net present value,
  • Accumulated value,
  • Internal rate of return,
  • Payback time;

and the following show only the Display year selected in the Economy ribbon in each case:

  • Costs for energy flows,
  • Revenues for energy flows,
  • Costs for plant operation,
  • Revenues for plant operation,
  • Earnings after tax (EAT),
  • Cash flow,
  • Investment costs,
  • CO2 emission, and
  • Primary energy.

Subtab Chronological Trend

Under Variant comparisonOverview → Chronological trend, you can select from the drop-down list to display the following economic result data of the Reference case and Variants 1, 2, and 3 in their temporal progression over the entire Period under consideration (see also the following figure):

  • CO2 emission,
  • Primary energy.
  • Earnings,
  • EAT,
  • EBIT,
  • Cash flow,
  • Net present value, and
  • Investment costs.

Comparison of the Variants With the Reference Case

The Variant comparison forms Reference case and Variant 1, 2, and 3 contain three subtabs each:

  • Evaluation of economical efficiency,
  • Costs and revenues,
  • Ecological evaluation.

All information under the tabs Variant comparison → Variant → Costs and revenues and Ecological evaluation relates to the Display year selected in the Economy ribbon, which is also shown in the heading of the forms. In contrast, only some information under the tab Variant comparison → Variant → Evaluation of economical efficiency refers to the Display year whereas other information refers to the entire Period under consideration. To distinguish this, the Display year is added in brackets to the identifier for the parameters relating to the Display year. The form Evaluation of economical efficiency provides the following economic data as Default view without actors or for a selected Stakeholder:

  • Investment costs difference (period 0),
  • Cash flow difference (display year),
  • Percentage saving (display year),
  • Internal rate of return,
  • Net present value,
  • Accumulated value,
  • Dynamic payback period.
The differences are calculated by subtracting the reference values from the variant values.

In a Chart, you can compare the Costs and revenues (for operation and energy) or the Earnings (Profits) of the reference case and the variant for the display year (see following figure).

Alternatively, the diagram can show the chronological Trends (time courses) in the following key figures or their differences between the variant and the reference case:

  • Earnings (Earnings difference),
  • EAT (EAT difference),
  • EBIT (EBIT difference),
  • Cash flow (Cash flow difference),
  • Net present value of the variant (see following figure), or
  • Investment costs (Investment costs difference).

In the form of the Reference case, the comparison and the diagram are omitted (see following figure).

The lower part of the form Evaluation of economical efficiency juxtaposes the following economic data with that of the Reference case as Default view without actors or for a selected Stakeholder:

  • Investment costs (period 0),
  • Energy costs (display year),
  • Energy revenues (display year),
  • Operating costs (display year),
  • Earnings (EBITDA, display year),
  • Depreciation (display year),
  • Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT, display year),
  • Cash flow (display year).

Here, too, the Costs and revenues for operating resources and other items are included in the Operating costs (e.g., Water costs, Sewage costs) or operating revenues (e.g., for Oxygen and EUA).

Exporting the Result Data in Word- and Excel Reports

The results of the economic evaluation are output in the Variant comparison report and in the Excel export.

The Variant comparison-Word report always contains the views of all Stakeholders. It is divided into individual sections for each actor, so that information on individual actors’ perspectives can be easily removed later if required (see following slider).

The Variant comparison export to Excel always takes place for only one actor at a time. To obtain several actor views, the report must be exported several times.
