The Component Self Sufficiency Rate
Component Template
The Self_Sufficiency_Rate.e-ctpl component template is located in the Component template library folder Key Figures.
How the Component Works
The Key Figure Self Sufficiency Rate informs about the autonomy of the energy supply within a system, e.g., the own supply of a company with heat, electricity, cooling, and/or steam. The Self Sufficiency Rate characterizes the independence of the system from conventional suppliers (utilities) in percent. Similar to the Self Consumption Rate key figure, the self-sufficiency rate key figure indicates the extent to which self consumption is covered. In the self sufficiency rate, in contrast to the self consumption rate, the grid purchase (purchase power grid) plays the decisive role, while generation is only indirectly included in the calculation: \( P_{generation} = P_{demand}\ – P_{purchase\ power\ grid} \).
The key figure Self Sufficiency Rate is calculated by default according to the following formula, in which \( i \) is the running index.
\( K_{self\ sufficiency\ rate} = \frac {\sum {P_{demand,i}}\ -\ \sum {P_{purchase\ power\ grid,i}}} {\sum {P_{demand,i}}} \)
The value range of the Self Sufficiency Rate key figure is between 0 and 1 or 0 % and 100 %.
Input Data
Scenarios
If the energy supply is self-sufficient, the Self Sufficiency Rate is equal to 1. The demand is decoupled from the supplier and is completely covered by self-generated power. If the generation takes place with renewable energies, the limit value 1 of the Self Sufficiency Rate is to be considered as the goal of climate neutrality.
\( K_{self\ sufficiency\ rate} = 1 \)
\( P_{purchase\ power\ grid} = 0 \)
A self-sufficiency level of 0 signals that the demand is covered by the supplier (utility) alone. No self-generated power is used.
\( K_{self\ sufficiency\ rate} = 0 \)
\( P_{purchase\ power\ grid} = P_{demand} \)
