The Component Air Compressor
The component Air_Compressor represents a universal model of a compressor for generating compressed air.
Component Template
The Air_Compressor.e-ctpl component template is located in the Component template library folder Compressed Air Supply.
Integration Into a Scheme
First select how the energy conversion is to be specified in the drop-down list under the heading Design of energy conversion (see following figure).
The form adapts accordingly.
Characteristic Curve for Auxiliary Units
A separate characteristic curve can be specified for the auxiliary units (see following figure) because this usually cannot be mapped proportionally to the operating point of the compressor.
Heat Recovery
Heat recovery can be optionally selected by clicking on the green
plus symbol (see following figure).
Polytropic Compression
The relationship between flow rate and electrical power is determined by the characteristic curve in the design variables. The outlet pressure of the air when it leaves the compressor is determined by the connected compressed air network.
The physical relationship between outlet pressure and deliverable volume flow is mapped via the polytropic compression process. The polytropic exponent that must be maintained under the operating conditions is calculated on the basis of the nominal conditions entered in the Input data of the Air Compressor. This is used to calculate the Polytropic efficiency and the Maximum flow rate at polytropic compression. These two values are displayed in the Technical output data under the heading Operating parameters (see following figure).
The Maximum flow rate at polytropic compression changes, for example, with the Nominal pressure and the Outlet temperature, which can be specified with time series.
If the volume flow is greater than the Maximum flow rate at polytropic compression, a warning appears asking you to check the input data.
Control of the Volume Flow
The ratio of the power consumption to the volume flow is specified in the Technical input data with a characteristic curve. Speed control or step-by-step control can be mapped here by selecting the characteristic curve.
