Specifications and Settings for the Parameter Study

Input Requirements

Under the tab Input requirements, in the subform Settings, specify the Folder for saving the results of the Parameter study calculations as CSV file (except time series: time series can be saved in the Time Series Container). Take care that TOP-Energy has the writing permission for that directory.

Parameters

The Parameters in the Parameter study are the variable input data whose effect on the sensitive Output variables is to be examined, for example, the inclination (Elevation) angle of the solar colletor.

Under the heading Parameters that are varied, you can rename the Parameter 1 und add and name as many additional parameters as you need, which are varied independently of each other (see following figure from Tutorial 71).

Beside the tab Settings, the tabs for the parameters named by you (Parameter 1, Parameter 2 by default; after a change of the form the display is refreshed) appear. Under these tabs, specify the details for the variation of the parameters (see following figure: Inclination (Elevation) angle).

Method of Parameter Sampling

First set the Type of parameter sampling: Value table or linear interpolation (Limit values with linearly interpolated sampling points).

With the selection Value table, you can directly enter the values to be studied into a table. For the calculation, only the input values are considered.

With linear interpolation, set the desired Number of interpolation points equally spaced on the parameter axis. The minimum is 2 because the upper and lower limits each count as support points. Linear interpolation calculates the values of the support points between the start and end values as a linear function.

The more support points are selected, the longer the calculation time. The selected number of support points also applies to the Additional coupled parameters. As a rule, ten support points are sufficient to narrow down the search range.

Component and Parameter

Select the Component of the parameter to be varied from the drop-down list or from the project tree via the button and the Parameter to be varied from the form that opens.

Only input values (in black font) may be selected as parameters, not the calculated output values shown in blue font.

A global value becomes local after being selected as Variable Parameter.

Pay attention to the correctness of the selected Components: Select the correct path for the Parameter with the corresponding variant, simulation, or component node. The drop-down lists of components are sorted alphabetically, as for the selection of parameters, except that the project name always appears at the top. The alphabetical order may differ from that in the Project explorer.

You can change the parameter later by clicking the Select button. You can Get the existing values with a single click, i.e., the value of the parameter available in the component form is entered into the first two lines of the Value table (if Value table is selected) or as the Upper and Lower limits of the variation (if Parameter sampling with Linear interpolation is selected). You can change these limits or enter them directly without first retrieving them from the component. With the Value table sampling method, it is not necessary to enter the limits or the number of Interpolation points. However, you must specify the individual values line by line in the table and, if necessary, vary the values taken from the Input data.

Additional Coupled Parameters

In addition to each Parameter to be varied, you can select other parameters coupled to it that are also to be varied. A prerequisite for the meaningful use of Additional coupled parameters is an existing relationship between the selected Variable parameters and the sensitive Output variables. With the Value table method, a column is added to the value table for each Additional coupled parameter. You can enter the values yourself in this column or use the Get existing values button to transfer them from the Input data and then adjust them.

Output Variables

Select the Output variables whose dependency on the variable parameters is to be studied in the next form (see following figure from Tutorial 71). These are the Sensitive variables in the Output data, for example, the Daynamic payback period, the Net present value, and the Supplied electric power.

After selecting the Output variables, define a Search target (Complete search, Maximum, or Minimum). By selecting Maximum or Minimum, not all interpolation point combinations are calculated, and the total simulation time is significantly reduced. The intelligent algorithm searches for optima and simulates with fine resolution only those areas where a minimum or maximum of the Output variable is to be expected.

For the output, you can choose between Average, Maximum, Minimum, and Integral from the drop-down list, each with optional Time Series Container.

If + Time Series Container is selected, the result time series of the Output variables are stored in the Time Series Container. From there, you can either export the time series or open them in the ETA for further processing.

Actions

Select the Actions to be executed for the determination of the dependent variables (see following figure).

First, select the Module from the drop-down list (see following figure). The simulation is preceded by the variant name (if available). It is separated by a period, e.g., Variant Photovoltaic System.Simulation.

Settings

In the TOP-Energy Settings, under Parameter study, you can specify whether the original settings should be reset after performing the Parameter study and varying the parameters. This function is active by default. However, this does not affect the status as a global value. If necessary, you can manually restore this property after running the Parameter study, which changes all Variable parameters from global to local.

Once all parameters have been specified and settings have been made, you can execute the Parameter Study.

The Parameter study changes all Variable parameters from global to local. After execution, you can Switch the parameters back  to global if desired.

Actors

Stakeholders are selected in the Variant comparison module.

First select the Stakeholder in the Variant comparison and then perform the Parameter study.

To include another actor in the Parameter study, first select the other Stakeholder in the Variant comparison and then perform the Parameter study.
